HISTORY OF ATLANTA CAPITAL
1969
Founded in Atlanta, Georgia (and incorporated in 1971).
1970s
The basis of the firm's investment philosophy is established. Atlanta Capital begins specializing in stocks with demonstrated histories of consistent growth and stability in earnings, and bonds with stable and predictable cash flows, and low credit and event risk.
1980s
Atlanta Capital publishes academic research in
The Journal of Financial Research
and
The Journal of Portfolio Management
showing that S&P Quality Rankings are closely related to risk and return.
1992
Large cap growth, small cap and fixed income strategies are introduced, including the
High Quality Growth Plus
,
High Quality Small Cap
,
High Quality Short Duration
(1 – 3 year), and
High Quality Intermediate
disciplines.
1993
The
High Quality Broad Market
strategy is added to the fixed income line-up.
1998
Calvert Investments hires Atlanta Capital as the sole sub-advisor to the Calvert Equity Portfolio, recognizing the close relationship between high quality companies and various environmental, social and governance criteria.
1999
Two additional
High Quality Short Duration
(0 – 2 / 0 – 5 year) strategies are launched as customized investment solutions for operating, and health and welfare funds.
2001
Atlanta Capital sells a majority interest to Eaton Vance Corporation diversifying its business into mutual funds and managed accounts.
2002
Eaton Vance hires Atlanta Capital as the sole sub-advisor to the Eaton Vance – Atlanta Capital Small Cap Fund (predecessor to the current SMID Cap Fund) and the Eaton Vance – Atlanta Capital Large Cap Growth Fund (predecessor to the current Focused Growth Fund).
2004
The
High Quality SMID Cap
strategy is added to the core equity line-up.
2005
Atlanta Capital reconfirms previous studies demonstrating that high quality stocks generate superior long-term risk-adjusted returns.
2006
The
High Quality Focused Growth
discipline is launched as a best ideas large cap growth portfolio, while the
High Quality Opportunistic
strategy is added as a multi-cap core portfolio.
2009
Atlanta Capital celebrates 40-year anniversary.
2010
Atlanta Capital publishes research showing that a strategic allocation to high quality, in addition to large and small cap, and growth and value stocks, dampens volatility and enhances return.
2012
Eaton Vance hires Atlanta Capital as the sole sub-advisor to the Eaton Vance - Atlanta Capital Select Equity Fund.
